• 12.3 megapixel CMOS sensor: This camera body features a DX-format CMOS image sensor that provides the highest level of performance. Its integrated A/D converter enables selection between 12-bit and 14-bit conversions. The sensor design supports the broad light sensitivity range of ISO 200 to ISO 3200, and features refined high-ISO noise reduction.
• EXPEED image processing: In addition to capturing excellent images, EXPEED also improves system performance for faster continuous shooting and memory card access. All internal processing is handled in 16-bit color, which yields improved tone, finer detail and higher image quality.
• 3" color monitor: A high-resolution, super-density, 920,000-dot LCD monitor makes critical image review possible. This monitor also allows ultra-wide, 170-degree viewing in all directions.
• LiveView display: Choose between two modes for previewing shots on the LCD monitor. Hand-held mode is ideal for moving subjects, providing the flexibility to recompose the frame prior to actual shooting. Tripod mode delivers precise focus accuracy with still subjects and tripod stabilization, allowing contrast AF on a desired point within a specified area.
• Viewfinder: The viewfinder features 100% frame coverage and large 0.94x magnification (0.94x) so you can compose shots with ease.
• 51-point AF: The 51-point AF system (15 cross-type, 36 horizontal sensors) employs Nikon's Multi-CAM 3500DX autofocus module. The D300 autofocus system allows users to select from Dynamic AF modes using groups of 9, 21 or 51 focus points. The system also features 3D tracking with automatic focus point switching that takes advantage of all 51 points as it uses color and light information to accurately track the subject.
• 6fps continuous shooting: Capture fast action and fleeting expressions. The D300 can shoot up to 100 images at a rapid six frames per second (or 8fps when using the EH-5A AC adapter or the MB-10 battery pack with batteries other than the EN-EL3E).
• Scene Recognition System: This system recognizes subject and scene conditions prior to capturing the shot. Enjoy improved subject tracking and subject identification for rapid and accurate focus area selection. Highlight analysis optimizes auto exposure by providing more accurate control. Light source inference studies both subject and pattern to achieve optimal white balance.
• Picture Control System: This system provides setting options that let both novices and pros create pictures easily. Four fundamental options—Standard, Neutral, Vivid and Monochrome—allow settings such as sharpening, tone compensation, brightness, tone and saturation to be easily adjusted and customized.
• D-Lighting enhancement: This technology compensates for underexposed images or insufficient flash by automatically adding light and detail to selected shots where needed, without affecting properly exposed areas.
• Quick response: Dont miss a shot—this camera powers up in just 0.13 seconds and has a shutter delay of only 0.045 seconds.
