hard plastic

Pros: Lightweight, 780 ft.lbs (breakaway), variable speed adjustment and trigger,7.3" long, 9800 rpms.
Cons: a little noisy @86.0 dba, pricy at two to three hundred. worth every penny
BottomLine: Anyone in need of a profesional grade impact wrench will be very satisfied with the IR2135TImax. Its Lightweight very strong and built out of the toughest plastic I've ever seen.
