Affordable telephoto lens for 35mm or crop
Pros: High quality, cheap price
Cons: Not great in low light, difficult to hold for long periods
BottomLine: Unless you shoot a lot of moving subjects in low light, this may be the only telephoto lens you ever need. Long enough focal length even for casual birdwatchers!

Great lens
Pros: Price, Quality, VR, all over is a good deal

Another good Nikon lens
Pros: VR, image quality, cost compared to faster lenses or bigger zooms.
Cons: f/5.6 at 300mm is limiting.
BottomLine: One of the best options for a first lens, if you need the reach.

Middleweight champ of a lens!
Pros: Optical and VR technology that used to cost much more!
Cons: Still slow glass, not pro build quality.
BottomLine: Another excellent tool for your serious kit, and great for the casual shooter as well!

Not worth the money at all
Pros: Better built than other 70-300 models at the moment.
Cons: Silly price for what you get. NO macro mode.
BottomLine: If you must have 300mm, buy the Sigma version. If 200mm will do, the Nikon 28-200G is a gem for 300.00.

Pros: Inexpensive, wide range of focal lengths, good performance for the money.
Cons: Not very rugged, no direct manual control on older Nikons.

Bang for the buck!
Pros: extreme optical quality, excellent construction, includes case and integrated lens hood
Cons: excellent price point vs its bigger brother the F/2.8...but still expensive. Lens collar
BottomLine: It may be an F/4 but you save $4000! and get awesome performance. It works fantastically well with Nikon teleconverters.

Pros: Excellent resolution and contrast. Robust design but with a relatively light construction.
Cons: Tough enough for hobby use, but probably not robust enough for professional use.

Didn't expect a lot, but got even less
Pros: Light, inexpensive, relatively small
Cons: Very poor AF (constantly hunts), lots of chromatic aberration
BottomLine: This lens let me down. The images are not what you would expect from a ED glass and the autofocus system is poor.
